Register: Trauma Informed Care

Free with a Convene Subscription. Non-subscribers pay $10/person or $500 for your entire agency.

Webinar Description

This Trauma Informed Care training is for professionals dedicated to serving some of the most vulnerable and disenfranchised individuals navigating challenges like homelessness, mental health, substance use disorders, criminal justice involvement, domestic violence, and other forms of complex trauma, including Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).

Dr. Vicky Kelly says:

"Trauma-Informed Care is a fundamental shift in the questions we ask. It is moving away from 'What is wrong with you?' to 'What happened to you, and how does that still affect how you function today?'" — Dr. Vicky Kelly

In this interactive, practical training, you will gain the knowledge and skills to make that shift with the people you serve every day.

Learning Objectives

What you will learn

  1. The 3 main types of trauma (acute, chronic, and complex) and the common emotional, behavioral, and physiological responses trauma survivors often exhibit.
  2. How to recognize signs of trauma without retraumatizing.
  3. The 6 key principles of a trauma-informed approach: Safety; Trustworthiness & Transparency; Peer Support; Collaboration & Mutuality; Empowerment, Voice & Choice; and Cultural, Historical & Gender responsiveness.
  4. The universal precautions approach — how to interact with every person you serve as if they have a trauma history.
  5. The empowerment approach that shifts power back to trauma survivors and supports their autonomy and healing.
  6. Practical tools for trauma informed conversations, including person-centered communication techniques that build safety and trust.
  7. How to avoid common pitfalls that can unintentionally retraumatize people who have experienced trauma.
Outcomes

You will leave equipped to:

  • Build genuine trust with people who have experienced trauma.
  • Empower the folks you serve to make healthier, more positive decisions.
  • Create safer, more effective interactions in your daily work.
Interactive & engaging: You'll participate in live quizzes and polls designed to help you immediately apply what you learn.

About the Speaker

Josh Dye

MPNA · President & Founder, Convene Training
Josh Dye

Since 2010, Josh has provided trauma informed training for professionals working in high-stress environments — health and human services, behavioral health, contracted case management, homelessness, reentry, refugee services, CASAs, nonprofits, and government.

Attendees in over 1,500 of his presentations have learned how to harness the courage to lead, create, have tough conversations, maximize precious time, and leverage moments of failure for meaningful growth.

What separates Josh from other speakers and trainers is how he combines practical, actionable tips with inspiration and motivation. He doesn't just tell you what to do — he charts the course for how to do it. Josh authentically speaks from his own experiences, sharing lessons from both his successes and gut-wrenching failures.

Josh earned a Bachelor's Degree in Housing Studies from the University of Minnesota (2006) and a Master's Degree in Public & Nonprofit Administration from Metropolitan State University (2010).
